Examples of GPA Calculation
Example 1
Course | Credits | Grade | Grade Points |
---|---|---|---|
Math | 4 | A+ | 4 x 4.3 = 17.2 |
Physics | 2 | B | 2 x 3.0 = 6.0 |
English | 3 | A | 3 x 4.0 = 12.0 |
Total | 9 | NA | 35.2 |
GPA: 35.2 ÷ 9 = 3.91
Example 2
Course | Credits | Grade | Grade Points |
---|---|---|---|
Biology | 4 | 3 | 4 x 3 = 12 |
Chemistry | 3 | 2 | 3 x 2 = 6 |
Chemistry Lab | 2 | 4 | 2 x 4 = 8 |
Total | 9 | NA | 26 |
GPA: 26 ÷ 9 = 2.89
Guidelines for Raising GPA
While there’s no guaranteed formula for improving GPA, these strategies can help:
1. Attend Classes Regularly
- Skipping classes can lead to missed information, such as changes in exam schedules or key explanations.
- Active participation helps solidify understanding and builds a positive relationship with professors.
2. Plan and Organize
- Tailor your study habits to your learning style.
- Organize notes and coursework to make reviewing easier.
3. Manage Time Effectively
- Balance your workload by scheduling time for each course.
- Avoid overloading yourself with too many courses or activities.
4. Review Regularly
- Periodic review of course material is more effective than last-minute cramming.
- Regular studying helps retain information and reduces exam stress.
